MY COLOR is a feature-length documentary that chronicles the growth of SUN Chenxi (Little Elsa), a girl with albinism, and her family. Little Elsa was born into an ordinary family in Anhui; her father works as a scrap collector, and her mother is a full-time homemaker. When she was born, her white skin and hair filled her parents with fear and guilt. One day on the subway, Elsa encountered a white-haired anime-style girl—it was as if she had seen someone like herself in the real world for the first time.
After that, her mother began introducing her to anime, fashion, and cosplay, dressing her up as a fairy-tale princess. Through long-term documentary-style filming, we will document Little Elsa's journey from kindergarten to elementary school, as she gradually comes to understand her differences and learns to navigate the outside world. We plan to use lightweight mobile devices for long-term filming to minimize the camera's intrusion on the child and family life, capturing authentic emotional shifts in the details of daily life.
MY COLOR aims to use one girl's journey of growth to shed light on the broader experiences of the albinism community. We believe that what truly needs to change is not "their" color but the way people perceive different colors.
