An old man had a hut by the seashore, in the hut lived his family: his wife and three sons. The eldest son loved the sea, but it punished him for his insolence. The middle son loved talking with the sea, but it stopped responding to him. The youngest son was swallowed up by the sea and taken away with him. After years of stranding, the three brothers reunite on their home island of Sakhalin to reestablish lost ties and finally bid farewell to their sea.
