The film focuses on Wang Huiwu, the only female witness of the first National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC). It consists of three episodes narrating her pursuit of new ideas as a young girl, her involvement in the women’s liberation movement as a young woman, her participation in the administration and security of the first and second National Congress of CPC, and her efforts to assist her husband Li Da in his research and dissemination of Marxism. Interweaving her stories with historical figures including Mao Zedong, the first chairman of People’s Republic of China, Li Da, one of the founders of the CPC, and other revolutionary writers such as Mao Dun and Ding Ling, it is the first documentary that comprehensively records Wang Huiwu’s legendary life.
